So I tested the scale by weighing the same packages repeatedly and found the displayed values varied by a half pound and more for the same items, regardless of whether the packages were a few pounds or closer to 50. I went back to the instructions to make sure I wasn't missing anything in the setup - sure enough I was following the right process, had the scale on a hard, level surface, and so on. This is awesome! It is very accurate, so I can calculate my own postage online and ship items directly from my home. The battery lasts a long time, and it only takes a 9 volt. I have also used this to weigh myself, and it is works for that too. For my purposes, it is great and I highly recommend it to anyone who ships things regularly and wants a heavy duty shipping scale.
